TV's Biggest Week: The Mother Revealed!!!

TV's Biggest Week

The Mother Revealed

Okay, so this title may just be a sham. In all honesty it isn't the biggest week on TV, but it is the biggest week on TV for fans that waited 8 seasons for this:

Smile for the camera!!!

The Theories

A poignant moment of a scintillating episode in an otherwise lukewarm Season of HIMYM

There were a few cheers and a few groans heard around the world once this episode ended what has essentially and unfortunately been the worst Season of How I Met Your Mother. But I am not here to talk about that, what I am here for is to simply celebrate the fact that Carter Bays and Craig Thomas (HIMYM's show runners) finally gave the shows loyal fans the moment they were waiting for. This season couldn't have ended on a better note.

Through the season ideas were floating around among its fan base:

It's the last season, we'll finally get to see the mother; true but also false, HIMYM has been renewed for the 9th and now final season.

Barney's step-sister will be the Mother thus making Barney and Ted actual bro's; debunked, in comes in Carly and we (like with an unfortunate Barney) get to see the most believable candidate for the Mother.

The Mother will die, hence why Ted is compelled to tell this story to his children; Possible, after all Ted does nearly tear up in the most dramatic moment this season as he claims his wish for more time with the mother during the time travelers episode (Episode 20)

And of course the most dumbest; Robin is the Mother, come on!!! This is never happening, let's face it Robin for Ted is the unattainable girl, the one from the fairytale dreams and unlike FRIENDS (where Ross obtains Rachael), HIMYM has always been about the realism of romance.

VS. FRIENDS

This brings us to the comparison or comment that How I Met Your Mother is our (if you're deemed old enough-what does that even mean?!-to get invested emotionally in the show) generations FRIENDS. Not that both shows were divided by a gap of decades, rather one year.

I understand this piece has no relevance to the topic at hand, but I would just like to touch upon it. How I Met Your Mother has always been considered as a replacement and at times slight copy of FRIENDS (the hit ten season TV show, for those who don't know). But it is also considered a much more realistic version of the lives of a group of friends in New York, they drink beer unlike Coffee, they don't always hang at the bar rather also have visualized jobs and most important of all; their heartbreak and romances are as serious and true as they can get without compromising on the comedic beats of friendship. I'm not chastising FRIENDS, I'm just pointing out the hard truth.

This is all beacause of one thing; the shows goal. The goal to find the Mother. This hasn't been a show about a romance that would finally bloom, face all the triumphs and succeed, nothing cliche like that. Rather this show isn't even supposed to show us the trials of one love (hopefully Season 9 doesn't debunk this), but rather the journey of one character growing up to realize that he will find his love but it wont be like some fairy tale rather just a chance he will have to leap towards. HIMYM has always kept towards one single path, not for us to end up seeing the life Ted and his one true love spend rather just the sparks of the beginning of a love story between them.

The Mother

Cristin Milioti recently nominated for a Tony Award for a Broadway adaptation of 2006 Musical Film Once, has been cast as the titular Mother/The Girl With The Yellow Umbrella in How I Met Your Mother

Once again hats off to the show-runners, this was a smart move. Casting relative Broadway unknown Cristin Milioti for the role as the mother is a masterstroke. Early on during the shows history, the rumor mill was a buzz that Ted's eventual wife and the titular character of the show would or should be a mega star. This seemed a given for a spectacular cameo, but it wouldn't be as special to us as viewers.

Why? well for one thing we wouldn't have a fresh face in mind, two it would mean our high expectations for the Mother wouldn't actually have been fulfilled (ironic considering we'd have a big time celebrity as the Mother) and most importantly in a sub conscious route; it would break the realism established within the show and once again bring back the fantasy girl situation.

The next best thing the show did; Giving us the first look at the Mother. Not Ted, us, it adds a sense of mystery to Season 9 as we may just see these two characters (Ted and The Mother) on-screen but not together, just waiting for them to meet.

It's the ultimate fan service, it keeps us invested for a final heart touching season that is presumably bound to take place across the next 56 hours of Ted's life. A protagonist we have come to pity and now one we cannot wish to see end up happy, since we now have concrete proof that he's going to right?

Still with this show you never know if Bays and Thomas are going to pull the rug under our feet.

So for now all I can say is, this revelation and hopefully the whole journey will be...

Legen...wait for it...Dary!!! Legendary!!!

P.S.: I had a feeling I had seen the Mother somewhere, now that I've searched Cristin Milioti's Wikipedia page, she was a part of under-seen and splendid Indie film Sleepwalk With Me, which I would urge you to watch.
